The belief that “Wine is made in the vineyard” led Ségur Estates to be a pioneer in the Alentejo in various aspects of its Encostas de Estremoz project, such as the installation of a drip irrigation system with water stress control; or the use of taller hedges than the traditional ones in Alentejo - a novelty brought from Australia and Chile, which allowed the grapes to mature earlier, due to greater sun exposure and thus optimize the potential for wine production.
Around here, the harvest is almost entirely carried out mechanically during the night in order to preserve the aromas and quality of the grapes due to the high temperatures of the Alentejo. We are talking about 50ha where you can find typical Alentejo varieties, and others not so much: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonês, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon...
The project currently has three distinct brands, all of them with wines that are worthy representatives of the huge Alentejo region.
Terras de Estremoz are the entry-level wines. Young wines, with good aromatic intensity, structured, but with a freshness characteristic of their youth. Wines at very attractive prices, ready to drink.
The range Encostas de Estremoz is a more complete range, which counts on the freshness of the Colheitas, but also on the structure and power of the “Family Reserves”, and also with two monovarieties very traditional in the region: Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet.
Quinta da Esperança, a complete range, with wines that are a mirror of the terroir where they were born. Pure, concentrated Alentejos, with excellent aromatic intensity, but with an unusual elegance.
The project has been widely recognized in Portugal, and we highlight here the 18 points awarded by Revista de Vinhos to Encostas de Estremoz Family Grande Reserva White and Quinta da Esperança Grande Reserva Red, or the 17 points awarded by Vinho Grandes Escolhas to Quinta da Esperança Grande Reserve White 2019.
