Product details
Reserva Tawny is produced using traditional methods. After the manual harvesting of overripe grapes, these are partially destemmed and crushed in the lagar (traditional stone trough), where they undergo a light maceration before alcoholic fermentation. This occurs slowly, at a controlled temperature, in order to preserve the characteristics of the grape varieties. Fermentation is interrupted by the addition of grape brandy at the ideal moment, which is determined by the winemaker, depending on the degree of ripeness and the desired sweetness. The result is a fortified wine, which ages in oak barrels for a period between 4 and 12 years in the Douro region. The final blend is obtained by mixing several wines with different aging periods, averaging 7 years, which are stabilized and filtered before bottling in Gaia.
