Algarve Wines: A World to Discover
Published : 04/23/2024 - Categories : Taste Room
Often considered Portugal's tourist paradise, this sector occupied a large part of the agricultural land area and Algarve wine was even close to extinction. But, fortunately, many producers have decided to revive the wine production in the region, and the results are increasingly surprising.
In general terms, the region produces velvety, low-bodied reds with a fruity aroma and little acidity. Open in color, presenting a defined ruby tone that, with aging, acquires a topaz tone; Delicate and soft whites; Safe rosés, which generally please everyone for uncomplicated consumption.
This is where you will find the distinct Negra Mole, a variety of unique elegance. It produces red wines of extraordinary lightness and freshness, creating full-bodied wines with structure, but at the same time uncomplicated enough to be the perfect companion on the hottest days.
It is a relatively small wine region, which currently produces around one million bottles per year, but what draws attention are the innovative projects of remarkable quality, of which today we highlight the Morgado do Quintão or Arvad wines. It should be noted, however, that large national producers also decided to head to the Algarve, thanks to its extraordinary potential, such as Aveleda with the Villa Alvor project, or Casa Santos Lima with the Al-Ria brand.
If the Algarve is also a region of good memories for you, take a look at our selection and be surprised by the quality of the wines produced here.
