Quinta do Vesuvio Capela do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2024

Port Wine
19,5 pts Vinho Grandes Escolhas - It resonates with Douro schist, herbaceous aromas of forest floor and rosemary – a signature of Vesúvio – with subtle aromas of pine breeze, forest floor and dark chocolate. The bold palate is expansive, expressive and irrepressible, such is its breadth and power, undoubtedly provided by the components contributed by the old vine plots. This multidimensional and complex wine has a monumental structure with a well-achieved balance where fine acidity, sculpted tannins and layers of fruit and spices come together to provide a formidable and inspiring wine that will fascinate and remain in the memory.

Winemaking:
2024 is an exceptional year. The moderate conditions during the growing cycle provide gradual ripening with an ideal balance, allowing these specific plots to fully express their unique characteristics. For Capela do Vesúvio Vintage wines, Charles Symington prioritizes co-fermentations – joint vinifications of different grape varieties in the same lagar (traditional stone trough) to maximize structure and concentration. In 2024, he combined some Alicante Bouschet from the Vinha dos Castelos vineyard with grapes from the century-old vines of the Vinha da Capela vineyard. The second co-fermentation brought together Touriga Nacional from the Vinha da Escola vineyard and Sousão from the Vale da Teja. Both lagares fermented for longer, another characteristic of Capela Vintage wines, which gives the wines a drier profile. Furthermore, bleeding the lagar later allows for more prolonged contact with the skins, accentuating the complexity and structure of the wine.

Disclaimer:
The photo shown is a copy of one of the bottles we have available for delivery. Keep in mind that the older the wine, the more likely the bottle will have some external dirt or slightly damaged labels. This does not mean, however, that the wine is not in a condition to be consumed.
The wines from our rarity zone are stored and air-conditioned in the most correct way so that the wine ages correctly in the bottle, but over time, the wine evolves and changes its characteristics.
We recommend that you carefully remove the cork and let the wine air for some time in order to release its natural aromas. Avoid decanting as it can be a very aggressive operation for old wines.
