The world acclaimed “Cem Reis” is back

Located at the foot of Serra D’Ossa, just 35km north of Évora, Herdade da Maroteira is a 540ha property that has belonged to the same Anglo-Portuguese family for 5 generations, since the mid-19th century.
For about 150 years, in addition to cork, the estate mainly produced cattle and some olives. In 2000, Philip Mollet, current owner and manager, revolutionized the farm's strategy and planted 15 ha of vines in clay-limestone soil.
Here Syrah is the queen, and it was from it that the wine that has become a worldwide phenomenon “Cem Reis” was born. Yes, that one! The wine that brought James Purefoy to tears on The Wine Show.
But the history of “Cem Reis” is a long one… In 2013, it reached the mouths of the world, with the 2011 harvest being considered the 8th Best Syrah in the World, in the International Syrah du Monde Contest.
From then on, it became one of the most desired wines in our country, and the living proof of this phenomenon happened with the 2016 harvest: Exactly on the day the wine was launched on the market, it sold out!
This 2020 has a concentrated, dark violet color. On the nose it is exuberant, with warm notes of black fruits, menthol notes, ending with notes of toasted almond from the barrel. In the mouth the attack is full, round, hot, and full of aromas, in a firm structure with good persistence.
The “Cem Reis” line is only complete with the white, an elegant Viognier, with a light yellow color, an intense nose of fresh citrus and a touch of oak. The mouthfeel is rich and full with well-concentrated aromas. Well balanced acidity and a long finish in the mouth. Slight buttery result of Battonage.
The "younger brothers" are presented in the "Dez tostões" line, composed of a Red Blend, an Antão Vaz White and a Rosé Syrah.
The Red, made from Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional and Syrah grapes, has aged for 12 months in barrels and is round and fruity. Available in 750 and 1500ml formats.
The White, 100% Antão Vaz, is very balanced, with an elegant, youthful and fresh fruit base and a highly gastronomic profile.
In Dez Tostões Rosé, based on Syrah, the watchword is balance. A pale, fresh, youthful and elegant Rosé is intended, but through the alcohol content and work developed in the cellar, it is equally structured, persistent and gastronomic so that it can accompany the highest Portuguese cuisine.
A range of wines that annually guarantees an excellent quality/price positioning. Stocks are limited and in high demand. Let's get to know it?
