Casa de Mouraz was born within the Lopes Ribeiro family, producers of grapes and wines for many generations. This pioneering and innovative project in the production of environmentally friendly farm wines, by António Lopes Ribeiro and Sara Dionísio, aims to create authentic and personalized wines that respect and express all the richness of their terroir.
The farm is spread over several vineyard plots with different soils, altitudes and surroundings. Old vines over 80 years old and younger vines cohabit with the pine, oak, chestnut and cork forest. Granites and clays predominate in soils, and altitudes vary between 140 and 400 meters. In the winery, the vinifications are done by vineyards usually planted with many different varieties, seeking for the essence of each terroir. All the vineyards are cultivated in an ecological way and have been certified by ‘ECOCERT’ since 1996. Soil fertilizers are made from plant and organic fertilizers and the treatments are based on the use of copper, sulfur, seaweed, clay, herbal tea and other natural products. At the end of 2006, they began working on biodynamics, using biodynamic preparations, among other practices.
In 2006 the ‘AIR - ANTÓNIO LOPES RIBEIRO’ project began, with the production of wines outside the Dão region like Douro, Vinho Verde and Alentejo, with the objective to spread this love for nature, always respecting the principles of ecological agriculture and the creation of personalized and terroir wines. Wines that represent the true flavors of the most emblematic wine regions of Portugal. A blend of aromas and flavors that combined with elegance and purity lead us to strong tannins and a long aftertaste that allows us to taste these powerful wines for a while. And with a few more points in favor because they are all eco-friendly.
This diversity is reflected in the personality, complexity and unique character of Casa de Mouraz wines. Leaving things to nature, each harvest tells a different story, chapters speaking of vines, grapes, soil, different landscapes, climate, men and women, and the many other elements that compose the narrative.
