Monte da Carochinha, wines from the mountain with one foot in the sea
Published : 06/14/2022 - Categories : Taste Room
Located on the coast of Serra do Cercal, overlooking the Sudoeste Alentejano and Costa Vicentina Natural Park, Monte da Carochinha enjoys a high view over the beautiful sea of Porto Covo.
The poor shale soils on steep slopes are surrounded by cork oak forest, pine and rockrose, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background. The mixture of aromas in this Mediterranean setting, protected by the microclimate of the mountain, is part of what makes this Monte so special and which clearly marks the profile of its wines.
The Monte da Carochinha vineyard is the result of the dream of reliving childhood memories on the Alentejo coast and of creating a wine with depth and, at the same time, with the freshness of the Atlantic breeze.
Occupying a total area of 6.2 hectares in a soil with a lot of schist and a favorable exposure, the wines are born here by the hand of Filipe Sevinate Pinto and António Cláudio. Wines made exclusively from Arinto, Encruzado, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Merlot grapes.
This proximity and passion for the sea led the producers to make an experiment leaving 101 bottles submerged in the Atlantic for seven months at a depth of about 16 meters. This is how Vinho do Mar was born, the original top of the range from this new producer, which we highly recommend.
