Winemaking:Aged in American oak casks in the traditional 'Canteiro' method for 10 years. This includes a gentle heating of the wine in the loft of the lodges in Funchal. Over the years the wine is transferred from the top floors intermediate floors, and eventually to the floor at ground level where it is cooler. After this gradual 'aging, the wine is clarified and filtered before being bottled.

Tasting Notes:
Medium tawny with ruby at core. There's quite a rich barley sugar and honey character to this wine, with a promise of sweetness and some toffee and orange nuances. On the palate it is medium bodied, with plenty of sweetness. There are notes of toffee and spices, and plenty of brown sugar and hints of chocolate and fudge. On the palate that sweetness persists, with a big pithy core of grapefruit flavour and acidity cutting through the middle. This has plenty of tart, orange peel and grapefruit bite, and has good length.
Store and Serve Advices:
As an aperitif serve at a temperature of 10ºC; as a dessert wine serve at 16ºC.
Food Pairing:
Delicious with desserts. Can be served with fruits, especially pineapple, fruit salad, rich cakes, strong cheeses or chocolate. Also good with coffee as a digestive.
