In 1982 José Carlos Calheiros Cruz, from a family of Douro winemakers, takes up the family tradition and builds a modern winemaking center in Régua, the demarcated Douro region. In 1985, he ventured to produce bottled wine with the ambition of making his mark in the wine market and bringing the Douro to the world.

In 2001, with the support of renowned winemaker Anselmo Mendes, his work begins to be internationally recognized, Adega Calheiros Cruz was considered the "Winery of the Year" by the American magazine "Wine & Spirits".

With the death of her husband José Carlos, in 2002 Madalena Calheiros Cruz assumes the leadership of the company, continuing her husband's passion and continuing to work with the same values ??and goals.

The company launches in 2010 Calheiros Cruz Memórias wine, a large limited edition reserve, as a tribute to the company's founder and his work. As a result of the expansion of the business, his son Miguel joined his mother, making this family business continue to evolve with its recognized quality, towards the future.
