In terms of international wine magazines, Wine Spectator is the most reputable one and the one that most wine enthusiast follow when deciding the wines for their cellar or even as an investment.
The Wine Spectator top 100 is one of the highlights of the year and being present in this short rank is the dream of any producer.
Wine Spectator's editors choose the Top 100 Wines on the basis of quality (score), value (price), availability (cases produced or imported) and an "X-factor" referred to as excitement.
Along the years the Portuguese wines had a small presence there, until 2014 where the 2011 vintage ports and some Douro red wines reached the first positions and for the first time the title of Best of the Year.
The top 100 from 2019 is starting now and we remember the 2014 mark where Dow’s vintage port 2011 got the title of best of the year.
The phrase below will be in the history of the Portuguese wines: “The Dow’s Vintage Port 2011 stands as a monument to quality and the modernization of the Douro over the past two decades. For its combination of power, quality and fair pricing, and for being the best of the best of an amazing vintage, the 2011 Dow’s Vintage Port is Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year.”
For the ones that missed the chance to get this excellent vintage port, we are now offering it at a retail price of €499.35, a price that seems high for many but remember that we are talking about the best of the year and probably one of the best vintage ports ever being made.
