The origin of Casa de Sabicos makes us travel to the 19th century, that by the hands of the matriarch Avó Sabica, who after being widowed with eight children to raise, had no other choice besides leading the agricultural exploration, which covered about 12 thousand hectares. An activity that lasts until today in the family and that inspires her descendants the passion for the production of grapes and good quality wines.
Having most of their red wines aged in French or national oak barrels for at least 6 months, the red grape varieties used are traditional ones from the region, such as Aragonêz, Alfrocheiro and Castelão. Also in the last vines planted, some well-known international grape varieties were introduced, such as the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and the white variety Chardonnay.
An example of a blend that uses national and international varieties is the Casa de Sabicos Syrah Aragonêz Red that brings a combination of elegance and complexity in a very intense violet color with good acidity and some astringency in a long and persistent finish.
In white wines you can find the Casa de Sabicos Joaquim Madeira White 2018, made with Antão vaz, Arinto and Chardonnay, where the Antão Vaz and Chardonnay were fermented in French oak barrels and the Arinto was fermented in stainless steel tanks. A white wine that reveals a citrus color in a mix of aromas of tropical fruits, citrus and toast from the barrel, giving a remarkable balance with a long finish.
The wisdom accumulated over the years, allied to strict levels of control in wine making, contributes to a high quality production. Made with Alicante Bouschet, Aragonêz and Trincadeira grape varieties, it brings a very complex profile with presence of very ripe black fruits already well matched with the aromas transmitted by the intense toast of the French oak barrels where the wine aged. It still denotes youth, with tannins and acidity present in the mouth. Ending in a persistent taste, where complexity and balance stand out with notes of toast from the barrel, dark chocolate and spices.
