We reach the last "best of the year" category with the super premium white wines, wines above the €20 retail price.
We would assume that our members selection in this category would be for wines with retail prices below the ones from the super-premium red wines.
But still the big winner is the Quinta Nova Mirabilis Grand Reserve White 2017, a €59 euros white wine, probably the most expensive we have in store. It’s an amazing white wine that deserves each euro we spend on it and in fact it got 94 points in Robert Parker, the highest score for a Portuguese white wine in this magazine.
The distribution of this “Best of the year” ranking is very similar to the red wines, with Douro leading the way with 5 wines and Alentejo following with 3 wines. All the wines are a reference in the market such as the Pêra Manca, the Esporão or the Niepoort Redoma. The surprise would probably be the Vicentino Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, vineyards near the Atlantic Ocean in a place without tradition in producing wines and a region that for many years wasn’t a reference for quality white wines.
From Lisbon we have the Casal Santa Maria Chardonnay, also a wine produced from vineyards near the Atlantic ocean so we can guess that our members enjoy the salty style of these wines and the more acidity in its profile.
The Vinho Verde wine region had to be in this short list since it’s one of the best regions for white wines and it’s not a surprise to see the Quinta do Soalheiro reserve and the Anselmo Mendes Parcela Única in this short selection, two Alvarinho wines that are among the best from the region.
Finally the Filipa Pato Nossa, a Bical wine from Beiras that is already a reference in the super premium category and a wine that doesn’t last all year in store due to the legion of fans around the globe.
Let’s give a big applause to Quinta Nova Mirabilis Grand Reserve White 2017 and let’s see how these wines perform in 2019 with the certainty that along the year many wines will arrive to our store to make all our members even more happy.
