Barão da Várzea do Douro was created by the Lencastre family, descendants of Antão Garcês Pinto de Madureira, who received the original noble title from Queen Maria II in 1846. Produced in the Baixo Corgo, the wines use classic Douro varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Rabigato, Viosinho and Gouveio.
