Wines for the First Days of Autumn

Wines for the First Days of Autumn

The days are getting shorter, temperatures are becoming milder and, little by little, the flavours of autumn are returning to the table. It is a season of transition that also invites us to discover wines that are different from those we usually choose for the warmer days of summer.

White wines still have their place at the table, but this is the time to explore styles with greater structure, texture and complexity, capable of pairing with richer, more comforting dishes. Among our suggestions, we highlight CARM Cosmos Reserve White, now 29% off, and Doravante Bairrada White, 17% off, a wine that shows how whites can continue to take centre stage well beyond summer.

When it comes to reds, there is no need to reach for the most intense and full-bodied styles just yet. Reds with good presence, fruit and balance are excellent companions for the first cooler days and for the dishes that start returning to our tables at this time of year. One of our suggestions is Fat Baron Syrah, one of our best-sellers and a perfect choice for those looking for a flavourful red wine full of character.

And as the evenings become cooler, fortified wines also begin to take on a new appeal. A Tawny Port, a Colheita or a Madeira can be the perfect choice to pair with cheese and dried fruits, or simply to linger over at the end of a meal.
