My favourite port
A lovely full-flavoured, rich port which is just how I like it - so it is 5 stars for me.

The 2009 Late Bottled Vintage Port is unfiltered and was bottled in October 2014. A blend of 10%Touriga Nacional, 40%Touriga Franca, 40% Tinta Roriz and 10%Tinta Barroca, it aged for five years in old, Chestnut wood barrels and comes in at 100 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is a youthful blockbuster, showing considerable power and complex flavors. It is laced with bitter chocolate nuances, a bit of burnt sugar and herbs along with just a hint of a stewed character, too. Dark and intriguing, it is very ripe, perhaps overripe, but for all of that (some of which sounds rather unappetizing) it is nonetheless rather delicious and I mostly liked it anyway; sometimes more than the score would suggest. Messias Baptista, Commercial and Marketing Director, said to me that "It’s undeniable that our wine has overripe aromas, which matches our style, this is fundamentally because the grapes come from hot spots." With air, it actually came into very nice balance, but for its unusual flavor profile; and it was much better on Days 2 and 3. How you react to its flavor profile will determine how much you like it. I said to Messias that I imagined that opinions on it would vary widely, but those who liked it would really like it. He said: "Exactly! It has always been like that!" In the group submitted for the LBV article this issue, it is certainly one of the ones that simply sticks out as "different." For table wines, the difference would likely require more criticism. For a rich, dessert wine, well, there may be some leeway. Call the score a compromise, and whether you love the difference or not will be up to you. It should hold pretty nicely. The price is very nice, too.

This is a lightly textured wine that has red berry flavors, spice and lively acidity. It is sweet, rich and generous in character, with red fruit, black currant and fine, well-integreated acidity.
