Welcome to the amazing world of the fortified wines and Portugal has three unique types that deserve to be tasted and explored.
The Port wines is a type of wine that can’t be found elsewhere and most of the wine enthusiast already tried it.
But in terms of Port wines, there are 4 main categories that deserve to be tasted once in a lifetime, the white, the ruby, the tawny and the rosé.
In the ruby and tawny style, for the ones who want to spend a bit more money, the late bottled vintage or LBV in the ruby style and the aged ports in the tawny style are an upgrade that deserves to be made.
Another unique fortified wine is the Madeira, produced in the small island of Madeira, you can find 4 main styles in terms of sweetness, going from the dry, to the medium dry, medium sweet up to the full rich or sweet.
Finally the Moscatel, for some the Moscatel do Douro is what you should have and it’s made from the Moscatel do Douro grape variety, a red type and for others the "must have" is the Moscatel de Setúbal, with more sweetness and made from grapes with the same name, a white variety.
We created a selection of 12 samples of the wines and styles above and it’s a beginer guide to these three unique types of fortified wines.
It’s a case of 12 bottles that will introduce you to these wines spending just €100 and it will be perfect to define what is your style and with that go further deep in it and discover a whole new world in terms of dessert wines.
