Muxagat is an exciting project in Douro, a venture of one grape grower from the Douro Valley, Eduardo Lopes, with the goal of producing high quality wines. Muxagat Vinhos started as a small garage winery in 2002, in the tiny village of Muxagata. Following their tradition of discovering almost extinct grape varieties, the new monovarietals red wines are a must for all the Douro fans: A Tinta Francisca and a Tinta Barroca.
The ‘Muxagat Tinta Barroca’ represents a new and different view of Douro wines. Light red in colour, this wine is fresh, young and cheeky but keeping the complexity of Douro soils. With cherry, raspberry and roses aromas, it’s an easy drinking wine with a velvet long mouth with fresh fruit and spicy aromas.
The 'Muxagat Tinta Francisca' presents a ruby color with medium intensity aromas of light vanilla, white pepper, blackcurrant and blackberry. In the mouth is dry with rough tannins and a medium-intensity body. This variety is known for producing less concentrated but more fragrant wines with a high acidity.
In terms of white wines, to complement the 'Muxagat Os Xistos Altos White', a 100% Rabigato, now you can have a Riesling from Douro. With grapes coming from a plot of about 1 ha and with an altitude of 600 m the ‘Muxagat Riesling’ shows an aromatic and fresh profile, with citrus and exotic aromas combined with mineral notes. The mouth is very lively and long with a sweet attack that gives volume but always compensated by the vibrant acidity. This wine has a great aging potential in line with the most famous Rieslings.
In addition to these 3 new wines, we invite you to check out the Muxagat “garage wines” available in our store with prices ranging from the € 9 to the € 35.
