The Decanter World Wine Awards is still one of the most reputable wine events despite the innumerous wine events that nowadays happen around the world.
It’s an event related to one of the most reputable wine magazines so we should consider the results from this event as a good guide when deciding what wines we should invest for our cellar, or even to have on our daily bases since many entry range wines can get a great result in this competition.
In the Decanter World Wine Awards 2018, the Portuguese wines achieved a great score with 18 platinum medals, 6 of them "The Best in Show", 23 Gold medals, 149 silver medals and 230 Bronze medals.
It should be noted that The Best In Show was assigned to only 50 wines of the universe of 19,000 wines submitted and the Portuguese wines were only behind France with 12 and Spain with 9.
What stand out from these results is some day-to-day wines such as the Trinca Bolotas and the Monte da Ravesqueira reds with 95 points and the Beyra white with 96 points. Also the Best in Show award to the Ferreira Vintage 2015 and for the Sandeman and Vista Alegre 40 years aged tawny, all with 97 points.
