Tonic water is probably the most used base for a long drink, mainly because it won’t overlap the aroma and taste of the “lead singer” in each cocktail.
In terms of Portuguese wines and liqueurs, almost all can be the star mixed with tonic water.
Some are already part of the menu in most cocktail bars, namely the dry ports, that needs something else to be consumed, either ice and lemon or other base that won’t overlap the dry aromas and taste of a white port. Also the pink tonic is something you can have specially in the more trendier bars.
As for a rich white port as the lagrima, or a young ruby port, probably it won’t be available but I’m sure it will pair greatly with tonic water.
Other fortified wine that you should find in a cocktail bar it’s the Madeira tonic, especially the dry and medium dry style.
Thinking out of the box, you can also try a tonic cocktail with some Portuguese liqueurs, such as the Ginja, bitter almond or Licor Beirão. All have what it takes to mix with tonic and get a refreshing cocktail.
In fact we selected twelve different type of wines, all are best sellers in its category and all are the perfect pair for a tonic water and in the end we can expect an easy to prepare refreshing drink to have during the summer days.
