This vintage continues Niepoort tradition to create balanced ports with great concentration but simultaneously fine and delicate. At Niepoort' we predict that this vintage will be one of the finest in decades... Vinification: In 2003 the harvest had very hot days and also very humid days. The production was high but with small grapes that produced concentrated tannins and colour. Overripe and dry grapes were taken out to reassure the finesse of the wine. Vinha da Pisca, (very old vineyard), with notes of coffee and black berries gave the final blend the desired finesse. In September 2005 the cycle for Niepoort Vintage 2003 was completed and now the wine ages in the final bottle, (32000 bottles of 750ml).

97 points - Niepoort Vintage Port 2003
Quite structured and dense. The spicy nose shows rich fruit. The palate is dense and spicy with a wonderful tannic structure. A massive wine: structured and dense with lovely purity of fruit. Very serious. Excellent
95 points - Niepoort Vintage Port 2003
A great wine from master winemaker Dirk van Niepoort. It is big, solid, chunky and packed with ripe fruit flavors. It also has fine acidity and a layer of dry, woodsy tannins. To finish, there are good bitter chocolate flavors.
95 points - Niepoort Vintage Port 2003
Dark color. Intense aromas of blackberries, licorice and iodine. Full-bodied and lightly sweet, with wonderfully integrated tannins. Long and caressing, yet wonderfully structured. Sexy. Best after 2015. 3,330 cases made.
