We are of an age when we can live part of the year in the UK and part in Portugal. So the regional wines are important to us, we would miss them if it were anything other than all year round. Portugalvineyards provide us with a top quality service and a website to select, order and have deliverer to the UK, some fantastic produces. Prices when delivery to our door in Winchester are still pence cheaper than buying a table wine at the supermarket. However the qualities do not equate. We have served a selection of quiet moderately priced Reds from the Douro, Dao and Alentajo to friends and our cellar as they call it (a pile of DHL boxes in the garage) has become famous. Our advice read the news letter & tasting notes, pick something you find interesting and try it. We have never been disappointed. Peter

Great service and great wine. A very good website. We love Portugal and Wine and Port, from Douro. This is a great no hassle way to get the best to UK quickly. Many thanks to the great team. Also DHL did a good job.

95 pts Wine Enthusiast - Early tastings are revealing lovely, dry red wines with intense colour and aromatic power, elegant and well-structured. The Portos vinified in the lagares are proving to be both aromatic and powerful, an excellent start which hints at the strong overall quality we’ve seen this year, with some batches potentially worthy of Vintage status. A strong year, with a great deal of promise.

Grapes are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation macerate to obtain the best possible extraction in the lagares, the traditional stone vats from the Quinta. It is matured for 18 months in wooden vats of various capacities.

Old Vines

Store and Serve Advices:
Serve at cellar temperature (15/17°). Decantation is recommended to separate the sediment. This cellar wine will mature over the years and develop a complex variety of aromas. You can also enjoy it when young to taste the intensity of its fruit. It is best drunk 4 to 40 years after bottling. Drink within 48 hours after openning.

Food Pairing:
Particularly enjoyable with a dessert, with dark chocolate or cheese. Also on its own at the end of a meal.

18,5 points - Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2012

Solid color. Wild fruits, creamy and sexy, very integrated, with a luminous beauty. Smooth, balanced and textured, with an explosion of ripe fruit, spices, pepper, long and defined with great precision. Big Finish, great vintage.

92 points - Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2012

The 2012 Vintage Port is revisited for a checkup. This is a blend of Touriga Nacional 70%, Touriga Franca 25 % and Tinto Cão 5%, which was aged for 18 months in wood and comes in with just 89 grams per liter of residual sugar. This has become more intense and more impressive, closing down a bit since I first saw it. It may not have quite the underlying concentration and focus of the 2011 (also reviewed), but it is a much fresher and more lifted Port, with fine fruit front-and-center. It simply seems more invigorating, more gloriously alive. I wouldn't be surprised if many like it better right now than the 2011--although that won't likely be the answer 25 years from now. It otherwise retains the style of all of Noval's wines here--elegant in the mid-palate, more focused on aging than lushness and sweetness. It certainly seems quite brilliant for the year. Originally, I was afraid I might have overrated it as it was so exuberant and showed so well nearer to release. Now, I'd be more likely to question whether I'm underrating it. It's never as obvious as some Big Boys and it probably is the third of the 2011-2012-2013 trilogy from Noval this issue (only by a hair), but it has its own virtues and plenty of them.

95 points - Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2012

The dark, almost black color and the wonderful violet aromas set the scene for this complex, dense and textured wine. It has a touch of spice, along with the rich plum and dark berry fruits. While it is rich, it is also a dry style of Vintage, bringing out structure as much as opulence. Drink from 2030.
