My first experience buying from portugalvineyards.com was quite good. Easy to use page, not bad service and delivery time to another side of EU also acceptable. What they could improve in there page is more easy way to find products with discount and also if they could find ways to reduce delivery price they would be wonderful. Anyway this shop is very good and for anyone who loves Portugal wines I definetly can recommend it.

96 pts Robert Parker - Opaque ruby/purple-colored, with fabulous purity and richness, full body, moderate sweetness, layers of jammy fruit, and well-integrated alcohol. There is some tannin in the finish, but this is a large-scaled, authoritatively flavored as well as elegant example of port that needs cellaring.

Winemaking:
Vintage Ports are declared only in great years (3 or 4 years in a decade) and only when the wines come up to Noval’s exacting standards. All the grapes come from the Quinta do Noval vineyard. Grapes are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation macerate to obtain the best possible extraction in the lagares, the traditional stone vats from the Quinta. It is matured for 18 months in wooden vats of various capacities.

Grape Varieties:
Old Vines

Tasting Notes:
Opaque ruby/purple-colored, with fabulous purity and richness, full body, moderate sweetness, layers of jammy fruit, and well-integrated alcohol. There is some tannin in the finish, but this is a large-scaled, authoritatively flavored as well as elegant example of port that needs cellaring.

Store and Serve Advices:
Serve at cellar temperature (15/17°). Decantation is recommended to separate the sediment. This cellar wine will mature over the years and develop a complex variety of aromas. You can also enjoy it when young to taste the intensity of its fruit. It is best drunk 4 to 40 years after bottling. Drink within 48 hours after openning.

Food Pairing:
Particularly enjoyable with a dessert, with dark chocolate or cheese. Also on its own at the end of a meal.

94 points - Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 1994

Just 900 cases made of this: the previous regime was producing 5000. Beautifully focused dark fruits with lovely intensity and fruit expression. Excellent balance. This is still young, beginning to develop complexity, with cherries, blackcurrants and herbs.

96 points - Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 1994

The first vintage under the AXA Millesime regime, but predating Christian Seely’s tenure, the 1994 Quinta do Noval Vintage has a conservative bouquet that is quite earthy with hints of game and leather. It has moderate definition, but conservative, and is missing the exuberance of its Nacional counterpart. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity and powdery tannins. There are touches of black pepper and game interwoven into the black fruit, while later burnt toast and tobacco surface. But the Noval ’94 does not “fly” like the Nacional, and instead settles for being an improvement on its nadir during the 1980s rather than exploiting that great Douro vintage. This drank so well until a few years ago, but now it looks to be in decline. Drink now-2018.

95 points - Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 1994

Muscular and ripe, showing fabulous potential. The best Noval in decades, it's full-bodied, with a fruity character, well-integrated, chewy tannins and a medium finish. A long-term wine that needs age to mellow. Best after 2010.
