Winemaking:
All the grapes come from the Quinta do Noval vineyard. Grapes are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation are pressed in lagares, the traditional stone vats from the Quinta. The wine matures for at least 4 years in oak casks instead of 2 years for a Classic Vintage. This explains its name, “Late Bottled Vintage”. Longer maturing in casks helps provide a smoother wine and gives it its very approachable style, ready to drink as soon as it is bottled.

Grape Varieties:
Old Vines

Tasting Notes:
A deep colour with a fruity, intense bouquet. An explosion of red fruit on the palate with a solid tannic structure and a long, smooth finish.

Store and Serve Advices:
Serve at cellar temperature (15/17°). Recommended to separate the sediment from this unfiltered port. Being unfiltered, it will improve and mature for a few years in the bottle. Can be enjoyed for up to 10 days when the bottle is kept in a cool place.

Food Pairing:
Particularly enjoyable with a dessert, with dark chocolate or cheese. Also on its own at the end of a meal.

Allergens:
Contains sulphites.

17 points - Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered Port 2009

Very focused on color, serious and austere profile, plant environment, all of it rugged and little talkative. Harmonious on mouth, polished tannins, good texture, chew. Well done and without edges that the aroma.

93 points - Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered Port 2009

The 2009 Late Bottled Vintage Port "Unfiltered" was bottled in 2015 with 91 grams per liter of residual sugar and comes with a long cork, perfect for aging. It is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz and 10% Tinto Cão. I might argue that for LBV, 2009 is even better than 2011. The normally restrained Ports just seemed to get some extra oomph. A tremendously fine LBV, this is rich, yet balanced with superb concentration and intensity of flavor. It is an LBV that helps demonstrate how fine the traditionally-styled LBVs can be. It is impressive in flavor intensity, aromatics, texture, structure and that lingering finish. Some five days later, it was in equally fine shape and still touching all of those bases well. Drink it now, if you wish, but it can certainly improve over the next decade or so. It will also hold for several decades. That's what a fine, traditional LBV does in a fine vintage.
