Winemaking:
Favaios is a sweet Muscat wine made from Muscat grapes intended to be consumed before and after meals. Although it is able to retain its qualities for several years after bottling, this wine is intended for immediate consumption. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature (23ºC to 25ºC) for around two days, with a intensive skin contact. It is then interrupted by the addition of brandy, resulting in a wine with high levels of alcohol and residual sugar. It is then aged for at least two years in oak vats and stainless steel containers before being sold.

Grape Varieties:
Moscatel Galego

Tasting Notes:

Store and Serve Advices:
It should be served chilled, between 10 and 12ºC.

Food Pairing:
Excellent companion for pleasurable moments.

87 points - Favaios Muscat

The NV MOSCATEL DO DOURO, aged in Chestnut, is a nice entry level Moscatel. Obviously, it lacks the power, concentration and richness of the high end that I’ve been raving about of late, but for a low end entrant it has at least hints of richness and fine aromatics, and not so much of that brandy flavor and aroma that impacts many low end Moscatels prominently (although as it ages, that brandy aspect will no doubt become a bit more prominent). The current hints of richness are just that because, as noted, there is not much mid-palate concentration, which is hardly unusual for the price level. The wine has a juicy, flavorful finish, though, and as it warms to the mid to upper ‘50s it becomes quite charming and delicious, but beware—this goes down real easy and that 17% alcohol sneaks up on you! The price is nice enough to make it a staple aperitif. Although these fortified Moscatels are quite sturdy and age well, it is still good to drink young.
