Winemaking:
Quinta do Vesuvio is arguably the most magnificent estate in the Douro valley. Located in the beautiful and austere Port-growing region of the Upper Douro valley, its history dates back to the 16th Century. All of the grapes are hand-picked, with a careful selection being made. Vesuvio is one of the very few estates in the Douro where all of the wines are made using the traditional treading method in granite lagares, among the largest in the Douro valley, and offered exclusively as a single Quinta Vintage Port. Classic, monumental wines with fabulous rich fruit character. Probably one of the best vintages of the 20th Century. General declaration. After a rigorous selection of the best lots, under 3,000 cases of the 1994 Vesuvio Vintage were released, less than one fifth of the production of the estate in 1994.

Grape Varieties:
Old Vines

Tasting Notes:

94 points - Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2005

Pure sweet aromatic fruit on the nose: raspberry and blackberry. Very sweet, bright and pure with lovely tannic structure.

18 points - Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2005

Austere and vigorous, chemist and something closed, note that it's a vintage that needs basement. Full in the mouth, tannins well covered, it presents high-quality fruit and a large tuning set. An excellent representative of this statement.

93 points - Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2005

As ever, Vesuvio is packed with its generous, opulent ripe fruit, showing richness, dense flavors, layers of jam and sweetness with a hint of caramel flavors. This is a Port for indulgence, ripe, rich and packed with flavor.

90 pts Wine Enthusiast - Bright red and very young. Fine and complex aroma, very fruity, the predominant character of ripe berries, like black plum and cassis, very characteristic of this wine, with hints of vanilla from its aging in oak. Tasty, full bodied, complex features ripe fruit with soft tannins and velvety, supported by good acidity, which gives a great balance and a finish thin and quite long.
