Quinta do Vesuvio Capela do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2017
99 pts Robert Parker - In the space of ten years, from 2007 to 2017, four Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Capela Ports were produced, all coinciding with classic Vintage declarations, to which producers only commit themselves in exceptional years. Mesmerizing aromas: rosemary, eucalyptus and green tea and licorice. In the mouth, the concentration and intensity are amazing, with multiple layers of complexity. There is an intertwining of red and black fruit flavors, cut by expressive tannins that balance the impressive structure. Sousão appears in the spicy notes that enhance the incredible freshness of the wine. The seductive aftertaste seems endless. An inspiring monumental wine.

Winemaking:
Quinta do Vesuvio is arguably the most magnificent estate in the Douro valley. Located in the beautiful and austere Port-growing region of the Upper Douro valley, its history dates back to the 16th Century. All of the grapes are hand-picked, with a careful selection being made. Vesuvio is one of the very few estates in the Douro where all of the wines are made using the traditional treading method in granite lagares, among the largest in the Douro valley, and offered exclusively as a single Quinta Vintage Port. Classic, monumental wines with fabulous rich fruit character. Probably one of the best vintages of the 20th Century. General declaration. After a rigorous selection of the best lots, only 3.000 bottles were releaed and less than 1% of the production of the estate in 2016.

Grape Varieties:
Old Vines

16,5 pts Vinho Grandes Escolhas - With a cherry colour and good intensity, this wine presents a young aroma with very mature red fruit. Discrete presence of vanilla and toast confere it a strong personality besides the intense and fresh character. Very soft palate, velvety tannins and a medium finish result in a very modern wine.
