A little closed in dark black fruit aromas, full and with good dark chocolate notes. Good design, with tannins, full and with good tannic structure cutout. Immense future.
The 2011 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a field blend bottled in 2015 and aged in old wood. It comes in at 101 grams per liter of residual sugar and (sadly) a bar top cork. That likely means that the producer really doesn't expect this to be aged, which is a shame since I think it could age. It was lightly filtered, but not stabilized, said winemaker Jorge Moreira. Beautifully constructed this year, this is one of the best LBVs I've seen from Carvalhas (Real Companhia Velha). Tightly wound, lush in texture and finishing with waves of fruit and flavor, it is delicious, very concentrated and nicely structured. Tightening steadily on the finish with air, this becomes more intense and persistent, lingering nicely. Two days later, it is more impressive, still showing off its fine depth and backbone. This is very nice and the price is certainly right. It's a great value. There were 20,000 liters produced.
Acidity and a ripe structure are on the way to giving a wine that will be rich, dense while remaining dry and firm. It is generous, concentrated and developing well. Black fruits and perfumed acidity are still buried in the tannins. Drink from 2019.
A fruity style, showing good grip and length to the flavors of cherry, crushed plum and raspberry. Notes of baker's chocolate and slate linger on the rich and spicy finish. Drink now through 2018. 3,000 cases made.
