Winemaking:
Over 30 classic Douro grape varieties can be used to make port but only a handful of the best are planted in the Delaforce vineyards, each contributing its unique character and flavour to the blend. These include the Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. The grapes are selected and harvested by hand in mid September and, the case of the Delaforce vineyards, are placed in small trays which keep them in perfect condition during transport to the winery. Delaforce LBVs are bottled after maturing in wood for up to six years, offering an early softness and development. As these Ports are only made available in those years when the harvest has been very good, they constantly produce a mature port of vintage quality, and are ready for drinking without requiring decanting (unlike the main Vintage Ports bottled at two years).

86 points - Delaforce LBV Port 2008

The 2008 Late Bottled Vintage Port is an old-vines field blend aged in a mixture of old Tonels (75%) and Pipas (25%). It comes in at 96 grams per liter of residual sugar. The tonels are over 100 years old and the pipas over 50. It was "slightly filtered" and then bottled in April, 2013. This is a completely charming LBV, rather lighter-styled (consistent with 2008, I think), but focused, beautifully balanced, correct (at least the second bottle; the first was badly corked) and easy to drink. There isn't a lot of concentration or power, but it is easy to like and the price is right. It lacks the lushness, the richness and the intensity flavor of the 2009, a much bigger vintage also reviewed this issue, but some prefer its more focused and precise demeanor.

87 points - Delaforce LBV Port 2008

Supple, with brick notes to the dried red fruit and spice flavors. Hints of cocoa powder and cream emerge on the finish. Drink now. 4,000 cases made.
