The first references of Quinta da Ferradosa go back to the end of the 19th century, when it belonged to the Borges family. At the beginning of the 20th century it was bought by the Real Companhia Velha. In the 90's, the Quinta was bought by Joaquim Manuel Calem, owner of AA Calem & Filho Lda, one of the leading Portuguese wine producing and exporting companies, created by his great-great-grandfather in 1859.
Located on the north bank of the Douro River, with exposure mostly to the South, it is the first estate of the Douro Superior. This region, with great thermal amplitudes and very little rainfall, meets all the conditions for the production of grapes of excellent quality.
