The Claret wines directly from the Alentejo
Published : 08/11/2020 - Categories : Our Selection
Claret or pallet style wines are given various names in different parts of the world, but here in Portugal, they are wines with a more reddish rosé hue, that are generally made from the combination of red and white grape varieties, which is not a rule.
On our tour around the Alentejo, discovering wines out of the box, we separated some products available in the store, which bring these unique characteristics.
Starting with the Quinta dos Terms Clarete Reserve Red 2017 made from the grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Rufete and Fonte Cal, it is a wine that brings a light ruby ??color and flavors of red fruits, full of freshness, ending spicy and with elegance.
Another reference is the Phaunus Amphora Palhete Rosé 2018 that brings the marriage of the white and red grape varieties, Loureiro and Vinhão. A different wine, with a salty touch, with aromas of dry rose petals and clay since it was fermented in talhas, revealing a perfect balance between land and sea.
Finally, we also brought the Niepoort Clarete de Charme Red 2016, made from old vines, which goes through a meticulous selection process and 10 months aging in French oak barrels, which resulted in a very expressive wine on the nose, offering a excellent freshness and intensity, revealing balance and liveliness.
Although this profile was a French specialty in the Middle Ages, clarets spread throughout the world and gained different characteristics, transforming each experience into a journey through the places where they are produced.
