Tejo wines and their international profile
Published : 02/22/2022 - Categories : Taste Room
The evolution that has been felt in recent years in the Tejo region has been tremendous. It started out as a region of excessive yields, ready to supply the needs of the capital, but today it is a quality-oriented, modern and dynamic region with a lot of identity and determination.
It is probably the most international Portuguese region. Foreign varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot were brought to the region by previous generations with the aim of improving quality. This at a time when national varieties were little studied and international ones had proven results. When the qualitative potential of certain Portuguese grape varieties was better understood, these also began to gain ground. Today it produces beautiful wines both with varieties of foreign origin and with very Portuguese varieties.
Comprising a total of 17 thousand hectares that annually produce about 650 thousand hectoliters, which represents about 10% of the national total.
We have made a selection of Tejo wines, at very inviting prices, so that you can get to know this region that so beautifully blends Portuguese tradition with international innovation. Good tastings!
