NEW IN STORE: The extraordinary organic wines from Vale da Capucha in Lisbon
Published : 05/12/2020 - Categories : Our Selection
The Vale da Capucha is a producer of organic wines, based in Lisbon, at Quinta de S. José and is a legacy of generations of two centuries, which today is being led by the family winemaker, Pedro Marques. Since Pedro Marques took over the production, many changes began to be implemented, such as the restructuring of the vineyards, which in recent years have given extraordinary results, that we can see in his wines with a unique profile and full of intensity.
With a wide range of red and white wines, based on the white grape varieties Fernão Pires and Arinto, completed by Viosinho, Arinto, Gouveio, Antão Vaz and Alvarinho, and on red grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Castelão and Syrah, they are influenced by the Atlantic weather, resulting in complex wines with great acidity. A great example is the Vale da Capucha Fossil White 2017, a blend based on the grape varieties Arinto, Gouveio and Fernão Pires, which gives rise to a wine with mineral and fresh notes of peach, lemon peel and white flowers, with a subtle salinity, expected from a wine with such a location.
In the line of red wines, it is possible to appreciate the Vale da Capucha Vinha Teimosa Red 2012, made from the traditional grape varieties Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, which after fermentation, spend 12 months in barrels aging. With subtle aromas of red fruits and vegetables, we also identify some mineral and smoked notes, due to its Atlantic and limestone terroir, which brings a unique richness and elegance.
Because these are organic wines, human influence is almost non-existent, and even in production, it has managed to evolve towards having minimal interference in the process. Following this new concept, innovating and exploring what nature has given them, we invite you to discover the wines of Vale da Capucha, worthy of appreciation and which are now available in our store.
