NEW IN STORE: Herdade do Cebolal– Union between Alentejo, Setúbal and Atlantic
Published : 11/10/2021 - Categories : Taste Room
Herdade do Cebolal is a family project that was born in 1890, and has since passed from generation to generation, and is currently being managed by the 4th and 5th generation of the family.
It is located in a very special region, Costa Vicentina, which, despite not being a wine region, has such a specific geography that it deserves to be highlighted: it is located on the extreme south coast of the Setúbal Peninsula, already with a strong Alentejo and Atlantic influence.
Here we can identify the complexity of Alentejo, the freshness of Setúbal and the acidity of the Atlantic Coast.
The estate consists of 85 hectares, 23 of which are vines, aged between 3 and 25 years - 10 ha are white vines and 13 ha are red vines.
Innovative, it has national varieties, but also many international ones. In the reds we find Castelão, Aragonês, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In whites, there are Fernão Pires, Roupeiro, Arinto, Antão Vaz and Encruzado, but also Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
Luis Mota Capitão, the project's winemaker believes that the wine is mainly made in the vineyard, and not in the winery. For this reason, the monitoring of the entire viticulture process implies a permanent intervention and observation in the vineyard, according to an integrated protection philosophy , environmentally friendly, in order to obtain first quality raw material / grapes.
At Herdade do Cebolal you can feel the calm and heat, the aroma and color of the Alentejo Coast. This is how their wines have well-defined characteristics, in which you need to slowly enjoy, close your eyes, take a deep breath and relax to feel the flavor of life. A production (and region) that deserves to be known!
