Published : 08/14/2019 - Categories : Our Selection
The surname Saramago inspires reverence in Portugal. But it is wrong to imagine that it is only by literature. António José Ribeiro Saramago is one of the references of contemporary Portuguese oenology, with almost 60 years of career.
He has always considered that “great wines start in the vineyard” and that “all of his success is the result of teamwork”, his versatility allowed him to create wines produced in different regions such as Bairrada, Beira Interior, Ribatejo, Península de Setúbal and Alentejo. In 2002, he created 'António Saramago Vinhos' with his wife Ausenda and their children Nuno and António, fulfilling the old dream of producing their own wines.
This producer is able, due to his extensive experience in the sector and in-depth knowledge of the region, to discover high quality vineyards that he continually accompanies to later produce in the winery unique wines that stand out for their genuineness and very high standards, based on the region's historic grape varieties like Castelão and Moscatel.
With table wines and Muscats filling his portfolio, this producer presents us with fruity aromas combined with rich flavors that leads us to a whole new experience in the mouth due to the elegance and acidity that this wines provide. Strong tannins, good acidity, freshness and volume are the main words that characterize António Saramago wines.
With a price range starting at €5 and going to €71, António Saramago produces around 150,000 bottles in the Setúbal and Alentejo regions and is preparing to launch more news in the coming months.
