Herdade de Lisboa: the rebirth of a legacy
Published : 10/13/2021 - Categories : Best of the year
Herdade de Lisboa is located in Vidigueira, an area renowned for the freshness of its wines, an unusual feature in Alentejo. It has a total of 350 hectares, of which 105 hectares are vines, 80 of which have been replanted, and the rest in more recent plantations. A property that has contributed to the history of the Alentejo wine region, as the “Paço dos Infantes” wines that marked the 80's and 90's in Portugal come from here.
Acquired in 2011 by the Cardoso family, the Herdade is now witnessing a renewal and rebirth in the panorama of elite wines in Portugal.
The selected varieties were mostly Alentejo and Portuguese varieties (Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, Verdelho, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Trincadeira), but also international varieties were chosen (Viognier , Chardonnay, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon).
In addition to the freshness characteristic of the region, the wines have an unusual minerality, the result of their clayey-schist soils.
The estate's portfolio is very well structured in different ranges of wines: Convés (white, red, rosé and sparkling), Infantes (red and white), and the brand that achieved notoriety in the 80s, and which has now been completely renovated, Paço dos Infantes (rosé, Reserva Branco, Antão Vaz and Touriga Nacional).
So let's toast to this rebirth of a legacy, and to the affirmation of a new chapter in the emblematic Herdade de Lisboa!
