Rui Roboredo Madeira traveled to many parts of the world, but he returned to his origins convinced that the Douro region has the potential to make the best wines in the world. In his winery he produces wines with the unique character of this terroir, expressed by the indigenous grape varieties to which he adds his own style and an international profile.
Quinta dos Castelares preserves the old cultivation techniques, combined with the latest viticulture developments, always taking into account sustainability and the respect for the environment. The vineyards are divided by location. From old vines over 40 years old, whose age and altitude give great elegance to these wines, the more mature grapes that provides body and structure and also the white grape varieties planted in the higher parts that confers elegance and complexity.
The old vines from this farm created a red wine with a great quality: the ‘Quinta dos Castelares Superior 2016’ at €9.25, winner of a Platinum medal, Best in Show and 97 points in the recent ‘Decanter World Wine Awards 2019’. I think these are enough reasons to buy this wine and add it to your cellar, but our five senses are very important too so we have to please them too. This wine shows a beautiful deep red color with aromas of ripe berries, notes of mountain roses and spices with subtle floral hints. The very pleasant tannins leads to a long end of mouth so we can keep this amazing flavors for more time.
If you like parties or bringing your friends home and serve dinners, the ‘Quinta dos Castelares’ white sparkling wine made from Códega de Larinho its the perfect choice to special moments. It has a very elegant profile that provides a medium sctructure in the mouth combined with a vibrant acidity and silky mousse.
The ‘Fronteira’ label only has red and white wine types. The white wine, that also has a reserve white wine, its perfect for lovers of fruity wines. Its medium structure as well as its elegance and softness shows well the characteristics and flavors of this "terroir" and the altitude of the vineyards.
The ‘Fronteira Grand Reserve’ red wine deserves a highlight because of the amazing score of 92 points given by the ‘Wine Enthusiast’ magazine and its not for less. Made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz staged 18 months in french and american oak barrels which provided a very complex and elegant personality. Soft but firm tannins turn this wine into a long journey in your mouth with fruity flavors anticipating an excellent bottle aging potential.
