10 years Port vs LBV Port
Published : 04/12/2022 - Categories : House of Port
When choosing a Port wine, the first question is always: Ruby or Tawny? Well, the answer depends on the food with which we are going to accompany our wine, but essentially the answer depends on our personal taste.
Within the two main categories (Ruby and Tawny) there are two sub-categories, which maintain an excellent quality-price ratio and are therefore always excellent choices. We speak of course about Tawny 10 years and Ruby LBV.
As we already know, a 10-year-old Port is a blend of wines that has aged in casks for an average period of 10 years. The average alcohol content is 20% and it is dominated by aromas such as ripe fruits, nuts, spices, chocolate and caramel. Once opened, we can keep it for 1 to 2 months without losing quality.
An LBV is a Port produced from a single harvest, aged between 4 to 6 years in large oak vats so that the oxidative evolution is slow. Here, the aromas of black fruit predominate, in an elegant combination with balsamic and chocolate aromas. Once opened, it should be consumed within a few days. It can be consumed young to show its full vigor, but it also has an enormous bottle storage capacity of around 15 years.
Those are wines of superior quality, with the huge advantage of reaching us at very affordable prices. Here are several suggestions for you to choose and make a perfect accompaniment to the Easter sweets.
